Feeling Trapped
Kyetu Catalyst. A spark to ignite change!
✨✨✨✨✨
Do you ever feel that you're trapped? Like you're stuck in a net, and the more you fight, the tighter it wraps around you? Or do you ever feel like your feet are stuck in quicksand?
And not only are you stuck, but you're being pulled down, or maybe you feel like you're falling from high up above, looking up at the sky, as you hurtle down. And you're sticking your hand out, desperately trying to grasp onto something to save you.
I know I do.
I feel all those things.
Not necessarily at the same time but I have definitely felt all those things. And what do they all have in common? That you're not in control of the situation; that externalities are applying pressure on you, and you're not able to regain control of your person.
In today's Kyetu Catalyst, I'm here to tell you that this feeling of being trapped or stuck or free falling, is common. It's a sign of anxiety, and thankfully something that you can overcome.
Firstly, when you're feeling this way, you need to take a break. You're in overdrive, feeling stressed and anxious, and you need to stop for a moment. Take several deep breaths in and out, and regulate your nervous system. Regain control of the connection between your mind and body.
Then, continue by accepting the situation for what it is. Yes, you are indeed tangled up in life's twists and turns. And that's totally normal. And we're not going to tell you that life is "easy". We're not going to tell you that the external pressures that you're feeling are gonna go away. No. In fact it's the opposite. As you grow and challenge yourself, and master situations, new hurdles are going to present themselves; ones that are more complex and could feel even more overwhelming.
But you know what? You're not in this alone; not even close. We're all in this together. And here at Kyetu, we can help you break free from that feeling of entanglement and entrapment. You are strong enough, even if you might not feel that way. But you are. And you are resilient.
Then what? You've calmed the nerves, you've accepted where you are in the present. Now you must delve into understanding what it is YOU want; that is, really understanding your deepest desires.
And then you must set clear, definitive boundaries around these dreams and desires, and believe deeply that you are worthy of them; that you are capable of them.
It's about having conviction in your agency. It's about having a deep knowing that you are doing what you're supposed to be doing, and that you're doing the best that you can. Not by someone else's standards, but by your own.
So please take your journal now and open it up to a fresh page. Take a minute to jot down situations where you have felt stuck or trapped. For each situation, think about what was happening in context. Whose expectations were you not meeting? Whose voice were you hearing in your mind, that was not your own? Now, take a moment to have your best self give yourself a pep talk. Do this in the second person, like a coach talking to you. You were stuck; you stopped because your intuition, your true self knew deep down that the situation you were in was not right for you. It felt inauthentic.
While it might be painful to accept, that out-of-control feeling of free falling or being trapped or stuck, can be viewed as a gift, if we're able to flip the script. Because it's actually a sign that we aren't living with integrity. It's actually a signal from our intuitive best self that's telling us to stop, when we're not able to set our own boundaries. It makes us stop and say, "Why am I doing this? Is this who I really am? Is this what I really want?"
